CentOS 7.2 1511 install hangs

Hello,

We just bought an M630 (2x E5-2680 v4, H330 RAID controller, IDRAC8 express). It seems to hang in different phases of booting from the CentOS ISO (tried multiple versions on 7.x, I'd like to have the latest 7.2 v1511), some actually finish the install with some errors but I can't seem to be able to access or even recover them using the installation media.

I've managed to install CentOS 6.8 without any errors but upgrading to 7.x is not an option.

I've also updated the BIOS as it was the only one not at the latest and also tried Lifecycle Controller assisted install without success.

Both REDHAT and Dell support matrix led me to believe 7.2 supports the platform, CPU wise.

DHCP over VLANs

I've been trying to implement some VLAN segmentation and network access control on our network.  Our entire network currently runs on VLAN 1.  We're starting with the NAC project which has a DHCP server just for controlling rogue devices, but I haven't been able to pull a device.

My current configuration is as follows

SW1 (PC 3448) port 48 (this is the uplink port) mode general allow/add VLAN 16 (NAC Network) & 15 tagged

SW1 port 14 mode access PVID 16

SW2 (PC 3548) port 41 (uplink to SW1 port 48) mode general allow/add VLAN 16, 15 tagged

SW2 port 44 (uplink to firewall) mode general allow/add VLAN 16,15 tagged

So when the host PC is connected to a VLAN 1 port it can get DHCP from the VLAN 1 server (the firewall in this case), but when connected to the 16 VLAN it's not able to grab an address.  I've mirrored port 48 SW1 and ran a wire shark on this port.  When the host is on VLAN 1 I can see the return DHCP ACKs and so on.  When the host is on VLAN 16 I can see the initial broadcast, but there are no other DHCP messages.  I don't think the requests are passing this first switch to the rest of the network.

I've tried trunking the ports, trunk --> general, general --> trunk, trunk-->trunk, and even played around with using access mode.  With nothing to show for it.

Any help would be great.

Force 10 (S4810) Class Map and Policy Map Configuration

$

Dear All,

I am putting together a traffic policy on my Force10 switch. I want to use 3 independant class maps. The first two will match two DSCP values and place them into a specific service queue. The third class map will reference an ACL for a QoS policy that will set a DSCP value. Then I will use a policy map to link it all together.

Please could you kindly look at the following configuration to verify that it should work. Unfortuantely, I don't have a test environment, so I will be applying this to production and want to ensure I get it right first time. Most appreciated.

Access List to match source/desintation subnet

ip access-list extended ACL1

permit ip x.x.x.x/24 x.x.x.x/24

QoS policy to set IP DSCP

qos-policy-input QP_SETDSCP10

set ip-dscp 10

3 independant class maps

class-map match-any DSCP24

macth ip dscp 24

class-map match-any DSCP24

macth ip dscp 46

class-map match-any SETDSCP10

match access-group ACL1

Single Policy that links it all together

policy-map-input Policy_DSCP

service-queue 2 class-map DSCP46

service-queue 1 class-map DSCP24

service-queue 1 class-map SETDSCP10 qos-policy QP_SETDSCP10

Service Policy to apply to Interface

Updating Server 2016 chipset driver on R720XD

I tried installing the Server 2016 chipset driver on my R720XD but was met with the following error message: ''Update is terminated, as the lockdown mode is enabled. Disable the lockdown mode and try the update again"

The OS is the RTM version of Server 2016. Nothing else is installed, apart from Dell OMSA 8.4. The Hyper-V role is enabled with no VMs running.

This is the driver I was trying to install: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=GKXMM

I was able to work-around the problem by extracting the installer with 7-zip and then running the Intel chipset installer directly.

What is lockdown mode and how do I turn it off? Or is this a driver installer error?

Hi, I've a Dell Poweredge T110 with ESXi 5.5. installed. After half an hour / 45 (or longer)  minutes it locks up completely.

Things I've done:

- BIOS upgrade to latest version

- Diagnostics check which was clean

- Enabled Watchdog timer within the BIOS which had no effect.

- Next step is to upgrade ESXi 5.5 to latest version? (didnt help)

Who can tell??? And where am I able to find the hardware events?

R630: A fatal error at bus 131 device 0

Hi everyone,

I have a R630 with the following error message:

Tue Oct 18 2016 09:38:10
A fatal error was detected on a component at bus 131 device 0 function 0.

The server crashed and rebooted itself at that time.

Yet I haven't found any infomation about what kind of device the device 0 on bus 131 is supposed to be, nor did I find any hints in the log entries in the centOS.

Does anybody know about bus 131 device 0 ?

thank you

Openmanage ESXi. Can't connect from workstation.

Hi,

We've got a new Poweredge T330 which is running the free version of ESXi 6. I installed Dell Openmanage Server Admin (which is provided by Dell) on this ESXi host with:
esxcli software vib install -d /tmp/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-8.2.0-1739.VIB-ESX60i_A00.zip
I also installed Dell Openmanage Server admin on my own computer so I can manage the ESXi host.

When I try to connect to Dell Openmanage on the ESXi host from my local computer it says "Verifying Credentials" after I submit the ESXi host ip-address and user/pass. After a while it times out with "Login Failed... connection timeout".
The computer from which I'm trying to connect is not firewalled, the ESXi host and my computer is the same LAN and have network connectivity; I can ping the ESXi host from my computer and the other way around.

Do I need to open some additional ports in the ESXi host security profile? How can I get this to work? We've got this fresh server but all it gave me is frustration so far with this ESXi Openmanage headache.

VMWare log: Device performance has deteriorated. I/O latency increased

I am seeing a lot of these "Device ... performance has deteriorated. I/O latency increased..."  warnings in my ESXI 5.5 Host logs. My investigations have uncovered the suggestion that I zero out the Tcp Delayed Ack setting.

I am supposed to check this by opening up an SSH session on the VM host &  running

#vmkiscsid --dump-db | grep Delayed

But apparently grep is not finding any lines with Delayed. The unfiltered dump looks like this:

# vmkiscsid --dump-db
Dumping Configuration DB to (null)
iSCSI MASTER Database opened. (0xffad8008)
=========[ISID]=========
=========[InitiatorNodes]=========
=========[Targets]=========
=========[discovery]=========
=========[ifaces]=========
=========[internal]=========
Record 1:
`rowid`='1'
`key`='discovery.ltime'
`value`='1'
=========[nodes]=========
=========[route]=========
=========[route_vs_iface]=========
Dump Complete

So either there is no Delayed Ack setting or I am doing it wrong.

Any suggestions?

Hello

I wanted to upgrade the quantity of RAM in two dell R210 servers. Dell told me that they did not have any replacements in stock, so I asked if

would be compatible. I was assured many times that it would be. When I power up, the ram is available (16GB) however on boot up, it says

What/how to install Dell VRTX PowerEdge M520

$

Hi,

My company purchase a Dell VRTX with one PowerEdge M520.

I have 32GB of memory, and 4 disks: 3x 300GB, 146GB.

I also want to try VMWare.

How should setup this?

Put all the disks in the storage? Or some in the server, and other in the storage?

In the server, should install VMWare vSphere, or install a WindowsServer and then install vCenter?

Appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

x1052p - Console Drivers / Connect to Term Server

$

Hey everyone - very long time Dell customer first time poster (always seemed to be able to find answers until now).

I just got a Dell X1052p Switch and it comes with a Micro USB to USB Console Cable, I connect it to a Windows 7 Laptop and it is asking for drivers. One would think that the drivers would be right in the Download Section but there isn't any mention of drivers. Anyone know where I can find the drivers?

Also anyone know how I can connect this switch to a Terminal Server? This is the fist switch I've ever seen with a USB Port for Console and of course our Term Server is RJ45 to serial adapters.

I have to say that I've been using Dell Switches for years and this has been by far the most painful experience ever with this new GUI and lack of any substantial documentation.

How do I solve my "iDRAC Not Ready" problems?

$

We have a PowerEdge R420 running an VMware ESXi 5.1 server in RAID mode.

We had a power outage that resulted in the R420 getting a "SWC0700: iDRAC Not Ready" error.  Our iDRAC setting version is 1.30.30.27.  I found the report about resetting the iDRAC and updating the iDRAC firmware with this version and error state.  Following the suggestions to unplug the power cables, USB cables and then holding the power button for 15 seconds did not clear up the problem.  The boots following this process had the same SWC0700 error.

I created a OSMA7.1 boot DVD, and I tried to install, from a USB drive, various iDRAC versions newer that 1.30, but everytime the system reported /proc/ipmi/0/: file not found (or something similar as I'm going on my memory here).

I needed the system up, so I pressed F1 to continue running.  The sytem seems to run fine except that the fans are running at high speed.

I saw another post about holding the iDRAC button for 15 seconds to reset the iDRAC, and I tried this with the system up and running normally.  This didn't do anything to the fan speeds so I am assuming it had no effect on the iDRAC.

I installed the Dell Administration COnsole VM on the ESXi hoping to run an iDRAC firmware upgrade from this VM, but, I couldn't connect to vCenter, which is probably beacuse I don't have a VCenter server, just two ESXi 5.1 servers -- I think I misread the DELL site thinking this might somehow work for me.

Now, I'm thinking about running the bootable ISO I found on this webpage: www.dell.com/.../SLN296511
My fear is that something might go wrong and I'll lose my server installation.

Should I put my trust in the bootable updating ISO?  Should I call Dell support -- I'm about 4 months out of technician on-site repair warranty -- and plan to replace my motherboard as I've read in other posts on this forum?  Can the motherboard be replaced without corrupting my ESXi installation?

I'm worried running the server with an "iDRAC Not Ready" error is going to burn out the server, or do something else that will ruin the server.  Should I even worry about this?

Thanks for any advice and suggestions in advance.

5548 ARP Timeout/ Switch Mode

$

0

Hi,

In our production environment we are having intermittent connectivity and slowness across all subnets within our layer 2 network. Everything appears to be find from a hardware stand point. Eventually the issue resolves itself. This has led me to believe that there is something going on with the ARP table and MAC address tables. After doing some research most recommend setting the timeout for both to the same (around 300 seconds). Based on what I found in Dell's PC5548 documentation (Dell PowerConnect 5500 Series CLI Reference Guide) the switch needs to be in switch mode (default is router mode) in order to configure the arp timeout to 300 seconds. Below is an excerpt detailing CLI configuration.

Syntax
arp timeout seconds
no arp timeout

Parameters
seconds—Specifies the time interval (in seconds) during which an entry
remains in the ARP cache.
(Range: 1–40000000)

Default Configuration
The default ARP timeout is 60000 seconds in Router mode, and 300 seconds
in Switch mode.

Command Mode
Global Configuration mode

Example
The following example configures the ARP timeout to 12000 seconds.
Console(config)# arp timeout 12000

How can I change the 5548 to switch mode? How does changing it to switch mode affect the configurations?

thanks,

Leo

Mounting ISO to iDrac5 from CentOS 6/7 server failing

$

Hello --

We have quite large Dell server deployment, having from PE 1950 III's to the latest generation. We do our work all remotely, and the plan is to migrate all to latest RHEL/CentOS v7, which is doing nice by using Virtual ISO Media mounted from Linux CLI host.

But, we are encountering issue when mounting ISO file to iDrac5 (PE 1950 III) from CentOS v7 (tried all three possible ways):

$ racvmcli5 -r 192.168.100.156:443 -u root -p xxxx -c CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1511.iso

racvmcli: connecting(1)..
Failed to initialize SSL layer
racvmcli: unable to connect to '192.168.100.156:443'

$ racvmcli4 -r 192.168.100.156:443 -u root -p xxxx -c ../CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1511.iso

racvmcli: connecting(1)..

racvmcli: unable to connect to '192.168.100.156:443'

$ vmcli -r 192.168.100.156:443 -u root -p xxxx -c ../CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1511.iso
Security Alert: Certificate is invalid - self signed certificate
Continuing execution. Use -S option for vmcli to stop execution on certificate-related errors.
Failed to acquire credentials.
Terminating

But, when we try to do the same, this time from CentOS 5 server we have success:

$ racvmcli5 -r 192.168.100.156:443 -u root -p xxxx -c CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1511.iso

racvmcli: connecting(1)..
..connected to 192.168.100.156
racvmcli: disconnecting..

Are there any way we can mount ISO files to iDrac5 without using CentOS/RHEL v5 as a host for issuing racvmcli?

Thank you!

Seth
